MIXBOX was formed in 2006 at Ajisai Music Village by Haraguni Aimi, Kitajima Nohana, Yamonaha Shiho, and Shinjou Saki.

They started as an Avril Lavigne cover band, but played some original songs such as "Baby". They won the grand prize at the 2007 Young People Music Festival as MIXBOX, but renamed the band Stereopony before participating in the 2008 Okinawa Sound Stage. They later appeared on School of Lock!, and were signed by gr8! records, a subdivision of Sony by Kazunori Sakamoto. At some point after School of Lock! and getting signed, Shinjou Saki left the band for unknown reasons.

The remaining three continued on as Stereopony, making their official debut on November 5, 2008.
